Make your wardrobe POP with painted hangers

If, like me, your wardrobe is looking a bit lacklustre, full of mismatched and broken hangers then this is the project for you! It is so easy anyone can do with a few basic supplies and a fair bit of free time.

For this DIY you will need:
  • Wooden Hangers
  • Sandpaper
  • Colour Paint
  • Clear gloss varnish
  • Paintbrush
  • Newspaper

Use sandpaper to gently rough up the surface; this will help give the paint something to hold onto.

Paint tester pots are great for this project as they are inexpensive and usually come in a wide variety of colours. If your budget can stretch to it, I would recommend splashing out on a designer brand of paint. I found the paint went on better and required less coats than the shop's own label.

Once painted you will need somewhere to hang them dry. An airing rack works well. Two to three coats should be sufficient.

Finish with a clear gloss varnish. It will make the colours more vibrant and protect the paint finish from wear.

It's so exciting to throw open the doors to the wardrobe each morning. Clothes look better hanging on them and the wardrobe has more of a boutique feel now.

Do you think you will give this a go? Let me know if you do!
